MEMORY BOOK & CARD SHOWER
Even though I am basically a believer in wedding anniversaries being celebrated exclusively between the parties involved there are some exceptions. When a couple has achieved certain milestones in their marriage, such as a quarter, half century or more it seems to be a an occasion for a larger celebration.
On my parents fortieth anniversary most of the family was able to gather and we gave all the siblings a heads up a couple of months in advance to come up with a favorite memory or list of memories to share. We put the memories into a book and we each read our offerings aloud. The result was many laughs and tears and two grateful parents.
I’d like to claim the following idea as my own but unfortunately I can’t and I also don’t know how we came across the it but it’s a beauty. It’s called a Card Shower. For our parents sixtieth anniversary we considered a party but most of their friends and relatives do not live close so this was the next best thing. We “borrowed” Mom’s address book and sent the following postcard with my parents wedding photo on the front to the “invitees”.

Thanks for your participation, it will mean a great deal to them
The Stone Family
The cards were a highlight of the party and along with the many photos that were taken we made an album of the remembrances of the day and the last sixty years.
Of course, the Card Shower could be used for many occasions…a birthday for an overseas soldier, an out of state graduation, birthday for an elderly person…an endless list. A bit of upfront work but a huge hit.
